Michele Bachmann - Why?

Seek and ye shall find -- in the bushes to the right of the man in the red circle.

Lip Locking with POTUS

What makes people vote a certain way? I think there are some that haven’t read or been paying attention to their local races or don’t really care about local candidates. This is sad when it comes to Minnesota Representative Michele Bachmann. Her 2008 reelection stunned me.

Let’s take a trip down memory lane – obviously this isn’t all-inclusive.

Work Hard at Lots of Jobs
Here’s a great Bachmann sentiment, “I am so proud to be from the state of Minnesota. We’re the workingest state in the country, and the reason why we are, we have more people that are working longer hours, we have people that are working two jobs.”

In case Michele Bachmann missed the post that suggested she open her home to out of work people from her District, I’ll make the plea again. Also, to help you stay in touch with the regular people, working longer hours and having multiple jobs is not a positive thing. Not having any job is also a negative.

A Bright Idea or A Dim Bulb
In March 2008, Bachmann called a news conference to denounce the use of fluorescent light bulbs to conserve energy because they contain minimal amounts of mercury. She introduced a bill titled the "Light Bulb Freedom of Choice Act." The bill seeks to repeal the nationwide phase-out of conventional light bulbs, the kind that have been used for more than a century -- pretty much since the invention of the incandescent light bulb.

Her bulb bill plops her squarely in the middle of the debate over global warming. In remarks to a gathering of Sherburne County Republicans -- reported in the West Sherburne Tribune -- Bachmann called any human connection to global warming "voodoo, nonsense, hokum, a hoax."
"By 2012, incandescent light bulbs will be no more," Bachmann said. "Fluorescent bulbs are more polluting because of their mercury content. We are working on a light bulb bill. If the Democrats can hose up a light bulb, don't trust them with the country."

Kissing the POTUS
You may recall Bachmann put the grip on President Bush’s shoulder after a State of the Union speech and not releasing him until she was able to lock on in a kiss that still is disturbing. If you need to be chilled, you may view the video on this blog.

The Iran Conspiracy
In February 2007, Bachmann told the St. Cloud Times editorial board, “Iran is the trouble maker, trying to tip over apple carts all over Baghdad right now because they want America to pull out. And do you know why? It’s because they’ve already decided that they’re going to partition Iraq.

“And half of Iraq, the western, northern portion of Iraq, is going to be called the Iraq State of Islam, something like that. And I’m sorry, I don’t have the official name, but it’s meant to be the training ground for the terrorists. There’s already an agreement made.

“They are going to get half of Iraq and that is going to be a terrorist safe haven zone where they can go ahead and bring about more terrorist attacks in the Middle East region and then to come against the United States because we are their avowed enemy.”

You may recall her tap dancing – now much more familiar – about this information being less than accurate. We could hope that she had some inner circle deep secret, but that doesn’t seem to play for the evidence.

Sisters Are Doing It
When Bachmann held a hearing on the gay marriage ban at the Capitol in St. Paul, Ramsey, Minnesota last April, she got surprised by her stepsister, Helen LaFave, sitting just a few feet away. LaFave chose the occasion to come out publicly for the first time, with her partner of 20 years in attendance. Bachmann claimed at the time that she had taken a family vote on the gay marriage ban, and that family members favored it by a 6-3 margin. But both Michael and Helen LaFave insist she never spoke to them about it. Helen LaFave added that Bachmann ignored letters LaFave had sent her about the matter.

For someone whose dream job has always been that of a wife and mother, State Sen. Michele Bachmann seems to have made an odd career choice. The Jan. 1 photo depicting her vacuuming in heels is just as confusing. Perhaps what she really meant to say is that her dream job has always been that of politician and actress. — Helen LaFave, Minneapolis

The Bushes – But Not Those Bushes, or Those Bushes Either
Early in her state Senate career Bachmann was caught spying on a pro-gay-rights rally by hiding behind bushes. It took me some time to figure out what the photo was when I saw it on various sites and blogs. I kept thinking it had something to do with the man in the red circle, but take a closer look to the right of that man and look at the bushes. Yes, there is someone hiding in the bushes and it is Michele Bachmann. This bush incident happened after her Star Tribune profile vacuuming in heels and all (see LaFave’s letter to the Star Tribune newspaper above).
I would really love a copy of the photo of said vacuuming to post here for everyone’s enjoyment. Michele, would you care to share that photo with the gentle readers?

Think of the Children
Wow, 23 foster children. That does seem like a large number. Where are these children?
